A.) The color blue just messed with my head for eternity! The article was very fascinating in the idea that the human brain can really block out or see thing they specifically want to see or that helps their heads make sense of the world around them. I am also not very surprised that this is true I have already read about how the human noses can distinguish and block out different smells to determines if it’s a threat or to distinguish different areas that you are at.

B.) I think in my own opinion that the paper journalism is just going out of date. Journalism is still very much alive it’s just how you get the word out now. I have seen comparisons about this kind of topic and the only difference between now and 20 years ago are hard copy’s and electronic ones. This article was a tough read for me b/c I think a lot of their argument is just going back against how the world is changing and there want to not adapt with the changes.

C.)  Okay, so. This whole discourse community is a very new topic to me but in a way it’s the same thing that we use now in technology and social media it is just renamed. The community that it talks about it the same as people making a Facebook page about something they like. But it is still completely not like that, because its’ to gather information since a discourse community is about a group of people that want to achieve a goal it doesn’t mean that that goal is a short time goal or a single time use. A discourse community is just social media without people putting in their own drama or straying off from a certain topic that is being talked about. The argument about discourse community and its form of communication is puzzling to me because the spreading of information in different forms does not mean that the people in the group are not still receiving the information or that. A discourse community can apply to UCBA b/c everyone is here to further their education (unless their mom forged some test so they can get in) so we all share a common goal. Yet this discourse community is broken down to even smaller communities b/c we are not all here to get the same shiny degree we all can common but different goal’s, so we have smaller discourse communities in the larger discourse community that already exist.

Muh Life from quarantine

The pandemic really threw me off and I lost myself in what to do every day. I went from having good full days to having nothing to do every day and it was horrible. I stopped taking care of myself and was going down in every way possible. I usually had work to fall back on to pick up extra hours so I could stay occupied. UFORTUNATELY my fiancé that I live with was at her future in laws house and failed to tell me how her mother (a nurse) was about a patient that was a potential Covid-19 carrier. So, my job (Walgreens) had me self-quarantine until my future mother in-law got her test back that she was negative for the virus. So here I am sitting in my tiny apartment lost and bored not knowing how to handle myself for these next 10 days. Why 10 days you ask? Oh, that’s easy that’s the self-quarantine policy is that I need to be isolated after the incident for 10 to be sure I’m free of the virus by then. What a long and boring time this will be. But with all this time I can focus on my school, right? Wrong there is something about be trapped with all the time to do the work that makes you feel even worse and harder to do the work even more now than ever before. But this seems like it will be my quarantine life.

Week 12 Returning to our Readings

Week 12 Returning to our Readings

  1. No one could see the color blue until modern times

The color blue shares the aspect about how the color is the nest added to the color family even though it’s been around since the beginning, but it just never had a name for it. The color blue proves the facts being this with writers not describing the sea as blue or how they don’t refer the sky as blue either. It also shows us how in other countries they have very specific names for the same color even with the slightest change in it.

The color blue was very provocative to me because the amount of information along with the abstract idea about the possibility of there still being other colors out there that we cannot see still or haven’t gotten a name for the is crazy to think about. It still weird for me to think about how artist and writers would try and describe the color as something we all clearly know it not. Then it’s more understanding because we see them trying to make sense of the world around them will the little information that have at their disposal just like we do now still in the world.

  1. Discourse Community

Discourse community is being described here as a way the people with similar interest reach out to each other to share their ideas and thoughts about topics that they have in common. also, these discourse communities do not just reach out to local groups only. They stretch from a college campus to across countries. They are just ways to share how we all bond over the things we enjoy.

This topic was by far the subliminal main topic of the whole semester to me. Discourse Community was very important to me because it isn’t just connecting with people with the same interest, but it’s also given the base way to genres in a way. Okay hear me out, I say this because the point of discourse communities by definition is “people, members of a community, who share a common interest and who use the same language, or discourse, as they talk and write about that interest.” this is exactly what a genre is!! (which they do cover the similarity in the reading) Therefore, it was so important it’s just giving the term “genre” to a public sense that takes you away from strict stories or information to a more of a community outreaching way of writing.

  1. How Language Shapes Our Perception of Reality

This article really goes into how words are not always translated so easily across other languages. English speakers from different countries have the same base group of words but we still have slang that’s unique to each demographic.

The title of this article speaks miles into what it talks about. With all those different countries having very precise descriptions to other being very vague. This makes me wonder what the culture is like compared to how their languages change. I wonder if it’s the third world countries that have multiple words or phrases like brazil does because they the same item or stuff for multiple proposes so this helps distinguish the function of the item.

  1. Twelve Words

‘Twelve Words” is a touching story about the bond a twin-brother and a family have with disabled family member who can only say 12 words. It’s how even with limited speech and movements they can still do the most important thing which is communicating with each other.

Twelve words was a really good story because it shows the bond that families can have with other members even if they aren’t able to communicate just how we do. It’s good to see how they all still lived a different but normal life as Dan was having problems, but it makes w=me wonder how they do after his passing and the moving on part. I do think it was important how thye did still communicate with him even though it was so limited.

DOGS !Well not just all dogs but your furry pets and if you’re a super fan of your dog or if you’re just a basic owner. Just as some of you that are going to be reading this, dogs mean everything to me. They are a huge part of who I am as a person and how I relate to the world around me. From others I know that the passion I have for my little pups isn’t the same that others would agree on that is needed for them. Which is fine as humans and unique individuals, I want to see the impact that dogs have on each person and/or family. Dogs are a huge part of people’s life’s and very important to how people are individual. But as a dog lover we have a special bond for our furry friends that we feel they are exactly like family members to us. We dog people show our extreme care for our dogs by doing crazy things like pays 40$ a month to get them a special box of extra toys and treats. Or we get them new collars for the season or maybe we even dress them up for the season so they’re super fly compared to the other dogs they see around them, so they are super jealous. But if you’re not that boujee for your pet maybe you just have picture of them all over you room or phone or maybe you even have their face on a blanket (very creepy). They’re for sure levels to see how you rank on your scale to how you feel about your pets. This chart will help see how extra you are for your pups. No judging coming from here just if you’re on the better side.

Observation- walking through UCBA cafeteria and asking a few people how they feel about what motivates them. With the initial question giving the subject my own opinion about what the question means to me and how it affects me personally.

What is motivation to you?

“Motivation is knowing what I have to do for myself so that I know I can be successful.”

“Motivation for me is just thinking about the future and how it will be different for me if I put in the effort today.”

What does it mean in your everyday life? I think that motivation can inspire people for days or sometimes for years it just a matter of how that motivation is connecting with someone and how they relate it to their life.

“I think motivation for me every day is knowing that since I am paying for my school that it is my responsibility to get up every day and go to class or turn in my assignment on time.”

How does it affect you to your day to day life choices?  Motivation isn’t always a straightforward process or a specific action. For me motivation is to not take the easy way out and buy food on the way home, but to pack my lunch to save money for other things I want and develop a better diet.

Are there people that motivate you to be a better worker or friend? How do they do that?

Do you have a specific goal that you’re more motivated for that you think is different that your peers? I know this all too well my overall goal is to start the neat chapter in my life and buy a house with my girlfriend and start a family. I am very excited about that and I think about that all the time.
